Abundant Life by Bufe Karraker on 8/6/89

August 7th, 2017

Jesus came to give us abundant life.  Bufe goes back to the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve, to begin this message.  Man had free will, and because of disobedience to God's laws, the harmony got broken between God and man.  God left us a book, the Bible, which most of us have never read.  Woven through it is God's story of redemption through his Son, Jesus Christ.  Bufe talks about all the mysteries that we can't understand but we must trust God in these areas.  He shares how the joy of telling others of Jesus Christ is true joy and connected to eternity.

Colossians 1:15-23

Commit, Trust and Watch God at work by Bufe Karraker on 8/4/91

August 6th, 2017

Bufe starts out with a story about a 13 year old gifted boy who got into trouble and as a young adult still got into trouble and how prayer changed his life.  Then Bufe talks about a woman named Jacobed, the mother of Moses, Aaron, and Miriam.  Jacobed knew when to hold on and when to let go.  Dobson says 44% of parents don't know how to let go.

1 Thessalonians 3 by Bufe Karraker on 8/1/93

August 5th, 2017

Bufe continues the study of Thessalonians.  He talks about Thessalonica and the letter Paul wrote to them.  Has there been any radical changes in your life since you accepted Jesus as your savior?  Has your mission been fulfilled?  Do you witness to others when the doors open momentarily?  Paul had many skills.  He possessed the heart of a pastor.  Bufe talks about having the heart of a pastor.  He also talks about fighting the spiritual war that is going on.  And what true love is.   Bufe mentions the song, "He Could Have Come Down" as an example of true love.  Jesus is our example of true love.  How does love grow?  It's a process.  When you get married, you make a commitment to love a person.  You don't base it on feelings.  You base your life on Christ and he will help your love grow for others.  What does love do?  Love brings a godly style to your living.  Love deliberately chooses an action that is right.  Do you do the yardwork that needs to be done or do you play ball with your friends?  Jesus is coming soon and you better be ready!  The purifying hope of the believer is paying attention to the second coming of Christ.  Our love for God and for others is an act that will never be lost.  It will count for eternity.

Committed to Values or Committed to Christ? by Bufe Karraker on 6/2/91

August 4th, 2017

Bufe talks about an unusual man he met in Honduras.  Julio demonstrates Christians values but has no relationship with Jesus.  That will not get him into heaven.  Then he talks about a man who is helping a little girl named Norma who is fighting cancer.  Roberto doesn't know Jesus either.   Good works do not get you to heaven.  Following Jesus is what gives you eternal life and gets you to heaven.  But there's the other side of the problem.  Those who follow Christ but are having trouble keeping his commandments.  Is the world still attractive to you, believer?  You will never be productive, you will never be full of the Joy of the Lord if you haven't dealt with this.   Bufe talks about a man named Bill who had spoken at Craft Talks and how he came to find true Joy in Jesus.  Love, Joy, Peace, Gentleness - those things don't cost a penny.  They are found in Jesus and sharing Jesus with others.

Dixieland Music at Northwest Church on 8/4/91

August 3rd, 2017

First time I really 'heard' Dixieland Music was when visiting my Uncle Bufe and Aunt Roberta's house.  Uncle Bufe loved Dixieland.  I was drawn to it too as soon as I heard it.  Sometimes Dixieland found its home at Northwest Church in Fresno.

Where Could I Go But To the Lord by Rusty, Rachel, Rick Karraker and Big Bob on 6/2/91

August 2nd, 2017

What a great number!  Talk about soul.  My cousins certainly know how to sing from their soul.  Rusty takes the lead, then Rachel and Rick is the one with the deeper voice.  Also at the end is a friend named Bob that holds his own.  I grew up with music like this since the Karraker kids are my cousins.  And our grandmother, Ruth Varner, played piano like they are singing in this song.  This brings back many memories to me.  Hope you all enjoy it.

And the Walls Came Tumbling Down by Bufe Karraker on 7/26/92

Find out the answers to these questions and more by listening to Bufe speak.  Do you have a Jericho that you need to trust God to conquer?

Paralyzed without God’s Power by Bufe Karraker on 7/26/87

July 30th, 2017

Bufe asks us to imagine that we are totally paralyzed from the neck down and all we can do is talk.  Then imagine a friend coming to you and saying he will stay with you and do whatever you needed to get done.  How would you react to this friend?  How would you glorify that friend?  The truth is - we are paralyzed without the power and strength of God working through us.

Jesus is THE Gate and THE Good Shepherd by Bufe Karraker on 3/20/83

July 29th, 2017

Two weeks from this day is Easter.  We are so easily lost in all the trappings of all the great religious holidays that's it's easy for us as believers to focus on the truth of what happened when Jesus Christ went to the cross.  In June 10, we see the dogmatism of Jesus.  We want to be tolerant and not dogmatic.  Bufe had gotten letters and pamphlets, etc. from Reverend Sun Myung Moon that last week.  Moon was in prison at that time for cheating the government.  Moon's letters said we need to bring all believers into unity.  But Moon did what all cults do.  They use all the right words to fool people and get them into their false beliefs.  Jesus said He was THE GATE for the sheep.  We get caught up in just being nice and not giving the message that we need to give.  Jesus said He was THE GOOD SHEPHERD, not A good shepherd.  He is the ONLY way to God.

John 10, 1 Timothy 4, Romans 5
